We do our very best to not turn any animal away that is in need especially if they are in an abusive situation. With the times as hard as they are for everyone. We have had an increase in the number of rescue calls. Many are just not able to adequately care for their animals. We then try to house them ourselves or contact one of our fosters and then assist the foster with feed and medical supplies. Whatever they need to help relieve the added burden of caring for the animal. As you probably know horses are very expensive to care for. Not only the feed and hay but also hoof maintenance and medical care. Two years ago we could purchase a large roll of hay for 45.00. Today that same roll is 85.00 to 100.00. This is due to the increase in fertilizer cost as well as fuel to harvest the hay. We have a small farm and are not able to have enough pasture to produce hay. So we have to buy it from a local farmer. There is a hay shortage nationwide. And we want to make certain we can feed our animals during the winter months. Horses have very sensitive stomachs and have to have special hay that is cut and kept dry and out of the weather. They are not able to consume the same quality of hay that cows can. Do to the danger of a life threatening condition known as colic as well as mold that develops in hay that is not properly harvested and stored.
We try to buy up enough hay to get us through the winter months and have enough extra on hand in case we take in any new animals. My family and I have cared for many of these neglected animals for many years and we never asked for any help or assistance we assumed all the financial responsibility on our own as we continue to do today. We have a handful of friends who love the animals as much as we do and have donated money for feed and supplies. If you would like to help provide for the beautiful animals that would be a great blessing. All donations go directly to their care for hay, feed, and medical supplies everything they need to have happy productive lives.
